INTRODUCTION TO THE BIBLE |
|
|
A. |
Its Origin |
|
|
|
1 |
Inspired |
"All
Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17that the man of
God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17 |
|
|
2 |
Holy
Spirit |
“However,
when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for
He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak;
and He will tell you things to come." John 16:13 |
|
|
3 |
Holy Men |
"for
prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they
were moved by the Holy Spirit." 2 Peter 1:21
|

B. |
It's Purpose: |
|
|
|
1 |
Keep us from
Sin |
"Your
word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!" Psalm 119:11
|
|
|
2 |
Lights our
Way |
"Your
word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path." Psalm 119:105
|
|
|
3 |
Enlightens
us |
"and
that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to
make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." 2 Timothy 3:15 |
|
|
4 |
Instructs us |
"All
Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17that the man of
God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy
3:16-17 |
|
|
5 |
Purifies us |
"Since
you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in
sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure
heart" 1 Peter 1:22 |
|
|
6 |
Frees us |
“And you
shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 |
|
|
7 |
Saves us |
"Therefore
lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with
meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls." James 1:21 |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
C. |
It's Completeness: |
|
|
|
1 |
All turth |
“However, when
He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He
will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and
He will tell you things to come." John 16:13 |
|
|
2 |
All Things |
"as His
divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness,
through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue" 2 Peter 1:3 |
|
|
3 |
Whole counsel of God |
“For I have
not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God." Acts 20:27 |
|
|
|
|
|

D. |
It's
Indestructibility |
|
|
|
1 |
Endures
forever |
"But the word of the
Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached
to you." 1 Peter 1:25

The Bible Warns: |
|
|
|
1 |
Do not add to nor subtract from |
“You shall not add to the
word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the
commandments of the Lord your God which I command you." Deuteronomy 4:2
"Do not add to His words, Lest He
rebuke you, and you be found a liar." 2
Proverbs 30:6
"For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this
book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that
are written in this book;19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the
book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life,
from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Revelation 22:18-19
|
|
|
2 |
Do not substitute human ideas |
"And in
vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ 8 “For
laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men—the
washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.”9 He said to
them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your
tradition. Mark 7:7-9 |
|
|
3 |
Preach and teach only God's
word |
"Preach
the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort,
with all longsuffering and teaching." 2 Timothy
4:2
"If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone
ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all
things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory
and the dominion forever and ever. Amen." 1
Peter 4:11
|
|
|
4 |
Believe no other gospel |
"But
even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what
we have preached to you, let him be accursed." Galatians
1:8 |
|
|
5 |
His word will judge us |
“He who
rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word
that I have spoken will judge him in the last day." John 12:48 |

1.
The mind of God |
But as it is written: “Eye
has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have
entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who
love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the
Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.11 For what man knows
the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no
one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.12 Now we have received,
not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might
know the things that have been freely given to us by God.13 These things we
also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit
teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.14 But the natural man
does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to
him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.15 But he
who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no
one.16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But
we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:9-16

idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with
fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Revelation
